Spiritual community doesn't just happen on Sunday! Small groups are essential to our church life at First Congregational UCC. By participating in groups based on a common interest, concern or experience, we form closer bonds with each other and listen for the movement of the Holy in our lives.
Current groups include:
Monday: "Way of the Rose," Oberlin Street Peace House (5028 N. Oberlin Street), 6pm to 8pm. "Way of the Rose" is a heart-practice of silent prayer and meditation, where we move beyond the idea-world of modern Christianity, and into direct contact with the real thing. We practice Silent Prayer & Meditation for the an hour, broken up by a light reading. During the second hour we will have light refreshments and share a common reading for discussion.
Tuesday: Spiritual Path Group, Chapel, Noon to 1pm. Simple. Profound. Holy. This is not a study group. We don’t pray, meditate, or even hold a discussion. We take turns speaking about our daily lives, and the spiritual practices we draw on. There’s no instruction, advice, argument, or feedback. No registration required. Just show up.
Friday: Spiritual Path Group, Library, 5:30pm to 6:30pm. This Spiritual Path Group is looking to bring out participation from the Young Generation of our church community. No registration required. Just show up and bring your thoughts, your mind, your journey, and your heart.
